Over the past ten or fifteen years Charity shops have opened up almost everywhere as they provide aid for people suffering not only in Britain but all over the world. Charity shops such as Oxfam help so much towards improving people’s lives in other parts of the world. Money that is taken at the shops goes towards providing clean water and sanitation, education, medical facilities and hospitals as well as helping people to grow their own food. Everything on sale at Charity shops has been donated by people who have no further use of them. Some Charity shops might have furniture that has been donated so the need for somewhere big enough to store all this is vital. One method of storage is by using pre-fabricated garages (Fertiggarage) which can be easily assembled and taken down as required. In some cases they might require more than one as they need to store clothes, shoes, toys, books and all sorts of articles before they can be sold in the shop.
Celebrities often donate their designer clothes to a Charity shop as well as getting involved in raising money for a particular charity. Who will ever forget the Band Aid record ‘Feed the World’ which was released in the 1980’s and sung by all the pop stars of the day to raise money for the people of Ethiopia? This was the first time celebrities had got involved in raising money for Charity and it was the idea of Bob Geldof who had been there and witnessed the suffering. Since then many celebrities have helped raise money for charities by just appearing at certain functions. The Race for Life has become very popular as a way of getting sponsorship to help research into Breast Cancer and people all over the country take part in this event. Another popular charity is the PDSA which relies on donations from the public to help sick animals. They too have shops which sell second hand clothes donated along with other items and need somewhere for storage. A pre-fab concrete garage (Beton Fertiggaragen) is often used for this purpose as well as storage for leaflets and other articles. Charities rely heavily on volunteers to help run the shops and many people work tirelessly without expecting any reward. Charity shops are very popular and often people can find a bargain that would be very expensive if buying it new. Young people looking for designer wear are just as likely to visit a Charity Shop as someone older looking for something fashionable without the expense.
Charity shops and charity work make a huge difference to people’s lives in one way or another .Volunteers are always needed and anyone with time on their hands would be made very welcome.
